An amazing book!!! (without sex scenes)

Hope Carmichael is on the run, trying to accomplish an age old phrofecy with the help of her kind of boyfriend, the archangel Michael and Enoch and Raphael. Together they hope to find they key to heaven's gates and stop the fallen angels from conquering it.
Michael is getting more unstable every day that passes and they have to avoid the Fallen that hunt them. Having to bear a love forbidden by God himself and the responsibility of being the Bearer of the Key, Hope has to rise to the occasion be the best version of herself while she travels through Europe in search for the key.
This is the second installment of "The Archangel Prophecies" and I must warn you, this series is very addicting and you must be carefull when you start reading it because you won't be able to stop.
Hope is the kind of characther that I grew to love and this book only gives me more reasons to love her, you can see her surpass her own fears and adversities to become a "strong and powerful woman".
You'll go absolutely nuts with the amount of plot twists in this book but you'll love them and you'll cry like a baby and you'll dance of happiness, that's how good and wonderful this book is.
The author somehow was able to ground her work in actual biblic passages and world history, including so many references that you'll believe the story is actually real.
The writing is beautiful and simple enough that a non-native speaker can read this book just fine (myself included) and it's an all ages book since it still, just as the previous one, teaches a lot about the danger of human trafficking and gives you warnings and tips about it that could garanty your safety if you found yourself in danger.
I advise this book to all fantasy and paranormal lovers who like tastefull YA romance without graphic sex scenes, if you're not confortable with that this book is perfect for you since it has nothing of it! Go and pick it up!

Book Two of the Archangel Prophecies Series
By Monica McGurk

Author Monica McGurk twists the threads of this story so expertly the reader is caught in her net within the first chapter.

Dark Rising is the second book of the Archangel Prophecies Series.
In the inaugural book Dark Hope, 16-year-old Hope Carmichael is introduced along with Michael who becomes her protector. The dark, seedy underworld of human trafficking is brought to light as they fight against its evilness. In Author Monica McGurk’s stand against modern day slavery a portion of proceeds from both of these books will be donated to organizations that fight against human trafficking.

In Dark Rising, the saga continues when they are on the run and further details of Hope’s destiny come to light. Learning of a prophecy, it leads them to find a key to open Heaven’s gates. Monica McGurk takes the reader into her story world that traverses history as the characters hop from Atlanta to Istanbul, Turkey to Ireland to France. Her descriptions of the historical places and the details of their travels pull the reader along as if they were in the caravan of travelers. Danger lurks along the journey’s path as they outrun several factions that are on their heels. One clue leads to another to push them to find the next until peril finally catches up with them.

However, this is not only Hope’s story. McGurk chronicles what Hope’s parents endure with her missing yet again. It reminds them of her abduction when she was just a toddler. They find answers to the meaning of the mark she received during that abduction. They find solace in each other’s arms as they had grown apart and now come together again.

This story continues the growth pattern of Hope as she navigates not only teen-hood, but how her choices have consequences to herself and to others. She is not a victim, but must decided whether following the advice of her angelic companions is in her best interest or theirs. Many missteps could have been prevented if she had taken the time to think through her actions before leaping forward. It is definitely a story that makes the reader ask what they would have done if they were in Hope’s situation.

The detail of settings that McGurk captures and the suspense/thrill of the adventure make this story an electrifying and entertaining read. Once you start reading, it definitely hard to put down.

Excellent follow up to the first book in the series!

We pick up right where Dark Hope left off. Hope is on the run with the Archangel Michael, who is sworn to protect Heaven at all costs, but he has given that up to follow Hope. In the beginning we don’t know if he is trying to protect her or if he is trying to push her away. Their dynamic is really quite interesting after reading the first book. Here is the Archangel Michael, sworn to protect the human race, and instead of doing that, he has decided to run after a girl he can’t decide if he loves or hates, leaving the rest of the world to the fallen angels.

A little background; Hope is branded with a mark on her neck which makes her a key part of an ancient prophecy, the bearer of the Key. The Fallen Angels have misinterpreted this as she actually being the key – the key to get them back into Heaven so they can take over.

This is a great follow up book to her first in the series. I sometimes feel like the second book in a trilogy can get kind of boring, but this one was great! I love to see all the imagery of the places in Europe where they are searching for the artifact that will actually open Heaven’s Gates.

Monica does a great job of incorporating the trafficking of girls and women, and oftentimes we don’t know if the Fallen Angels are on Hope’s tail or if it is the traffickers that she thwarted in the first book.

This is a pretty fast paced book, and a quick read. I enjoy watching the struggle of Michael, wanting to protect the humans he loves so dearly, but also being conflicted with his feelings for Hope. The attitude of the other angels that are with their little band is an interesting dynamic as well, where they could care less about Hope’s life.

Overall, awesome follow up! I can’t wait to read the third installment!

In a vast, open sea of books on how to give good presentations and run meetings, Matt Abrahams has it down. He's put all you need to know to get more comfortable in front of people into a small book that you'll refer to and recommend to friends as long as you don't lose it due to its compact size.

What makes it special is 1) he keeps his ego out of it and focuses on the subject, something many modern non-fiction authors can't bear to do; 2) it's a near-perfect mixture of broad, general advice on being a more prepared and relaxed speaker over one's life and career and very specific tactics to use the day of your important presentation; and, 3) it reads well. He also has a nice section for non-native speakers that he should turn into an entire book.

If you're looking for something special for that newly promoted manager in your life, a supplementary text for your Speech or Communications course (college or high school), or even a seasoned speaker, get this book. Now!

Down to earth advice

What I like best about Abrahams' book is that it offers practical suggestions that readers can put to use right away. This is not some hypnotic program to trick anxious speakers into pretending they're not nervous. Instead, Abrahams accepts the physiological response all speakers experience and explains how to refocus these reactions in a constructive way.

I've presented in front of large audiences for years and still found this book to have numerous helpful tips to improve my speaking style. I've now shared my copy with several colleagues because I thought it would help them too. Abrahams' down-to-earth recommendations make this book easy to read and even easier to put into practice.

About the Author
Josiah has been in the automated gate business for twenty years. Not twenty years give or take but, at the time of this writing, a solid twenty years. That’s a hefty amount of time spent designing, repairing, installing, and maintaining a wide variety of automatic gates. For the most recent decade of that time, he has operated a gate installation and service business where he left his mark all around the State of Washington in the form of residential and commercial automated gates he’s designed and installed. Giselle entered the fence and gate industry without knowing a thing about construction or, quite frankly, gates. She comes from a technology and education background where, in her earlier life, she blended the two disciplines to forge a career as a sales and technical training manager at various software firms. She loves education so much that she’s spent time teaching in Myanmar and earned a Master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California.

This book has essential information for anyone who is contemplating the purchase of an automatic driveway gate. I mean...who knew such a purchase required so much research? Well, not only does this book explain why, but it'll help you make an informed decision based on facts and tips that the authors provided. Not only is an automatic driveway dangerous and composed of complex parts, but a lot goes into proper installation. If you're a homeowner thinking of adding one, you'll want to read this book first!

Actually a VERY helpful book

As someone who had no experience doing anything and with a wife bugging me to make the home look better I need any help I could get. This book gave some pro tips and great techniques for making the best driveway possible. I couldn't have done it without this book. Hoping they create more for other home projects.

Through his overview of changes in men's fashions from the 1930s ("the height of elegance") to the present, and his discussion of the current styles of suits, shirts, shoes and accessories, the author attains his goal. There are tips on fit and color coordination, recommendations for appropriate wear for different occasions, clothing suggestions for other-than-average figures (playing down a full figure, drawing attention away from long legs, giving the illusion of height to a short man) and drawings that illustrate what Flusser decrees to be the right way to knot a tie or fold a handkerchief. Classic Timelessness

This is a quick, one-day read, but a lifetime keeper for reference.

Mr. Flusser covers all the essentials in detail: suit coats; suit trousers; sport coats; blazers; dress shirts; neckties; handkerchiefs; hose (socks); shoes; hats; and jewelery.

He covers sportswear such as cable-knit pullover sweaters and cardigans very briefly.

Mr. Flusser asserts the lines, look, and feel of all fine mens wear can be traced to the timespan of the 1930s - 1950s. This was the Golden Age of Hollywood when men dressed well (Cary Grant; Fred Astaire; Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.; Adolph Menjou; and England's Edward, Prince of Wales). Mr. Flusser's point is that if you want a suit that will not be out of date in five or ten years, ensure it is grounded in 1930s - 1950s style, with emphasis on the 1930s.

The only thing I disagreed with in the entire book was his reverence for the four-in-hand necktie knot in all settings. This knot is asymmetrical and does not belong in the boardroom or office. It is a knot that is to be worn casually to a club or in some other social setting. The Windsor or Half Windsor should be worn to the office.

This is somewhat a digression, but there is more to fine dressing than just the fabric against your body, or the leather upon your feet. Care must be taken to groom the hair inside your nose, so that it does not protrude outward. The hair on and in the ear must be cut. Nothing looks worse than looking at a man in fine clothes and seeing he has a thick patch of hair growing out of each ear cavity. Andy Rooney eyebrows are also verboten. Hair, beards, moustaches, eyebrows, ears, nose, teeth...all of these must be groomed/maintained properly to accentuate the look of fine clothes. Without these grooming basics in place, no suit is going to make you look good. Mr. Flusser elected not to cover grooming as essential to the "total package," yet he devoted many areas of the book to items that were not strictly related to clothing. I feel it was a mistake to neglect grooming.

Clothes and the Man is now 21 years old. It is as relevant now as when it was written. This book is a timeless masterpiece, fully deserving five stars.

After you read this book and you go to buy a suit you'll be able to request a proper fit of it and not whatever the tailor thinks it should be. After all you'll be the one wearing it.

Grade 2-6–This is a moving story set in Canada about the practice of removing Native children from their villages and sending them to residential schools to learn the English language and culture. An introduction explains that governments believed Native people were ignorant and made laws to educate their children. Shi-shi-etko counts down her last four days before going away. She tries to memorize everything about her home–tall grass swaying to the rhythm of the breeze, determined mosquitoes, working bumblebees. There is a family party to say good-bye. Her father takes her out in a canoe and implores her to remember the trees, the water, and the mountains, and her grandmother gives her a small bag made of deer hide in which to keep her memories. The vivid, digital illustrations rely on a red palette, evoking not only the land but also the sorrow of the situation and the hope upon which the story ultimately ends. This contemplative narrative will help children see how Native people have been treated in both Canada and the United States. Gr. 2-4. Using gentle rounded shapes and rich autumnal colors, LaFave captures the events that take place during the three days before a young Canadian girl must leave her home. Author Campbell's foreword explains the harsh government policies that, until 1984, separated Native American children as young as four from their parents, though her story conveys only that Shi-shi-etko, whose name means "she loves to play in the water," is going away to school. Before she leaves, the girl visits the creek with her mother, goes canoeing with her father, and collects sprigs from trees with her grandmother. The loving adults urge her to treasure these memories, and the girl looks and listens carefully. Without dwelling on the impending separation, the lyrical text is, nevertheless, poignant, as is the last picture of children in the back of a pickup truck driving away. Although Shi-shi-etko appears to be about five or six, the audience for her story will be slightly older children, who can grasp the implications of her fate and understand that the story takes place in the past. Talk about a picture book to tear at my heart strings and boil my blood. This story is so heart wrenching and maddening at the same time as being so beautiful in tradition until the horrible new white man made tradition of sending Native American children off to residential schools to unlearn their native ways.

My heart broke at each new day for Shi-shi-etko and her family.

Beautiful story, and appropriate for even younger children

I got this book to introduce my little one to the injustices visited upon the First Nations people, but also to share some of the beauty of that culture. It is beautifully written, and completely appropriate for kids as young as six, I would say.
