Love These Books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really Love the Aurora Sky Books! This was a great Read I do suggest you read Stakeout and Evil Red to give you some background and give you better insight to Noel and Valerie. I started reading and couldn't put down and now want more cannot wait for more Aurora Sky! I enjoyed getting to know Dante better but personally am a fan of Fane.

Bad Blood by Nikki Jefford is the third novel in the series called Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter. This book continues the story of Aurora Sky, a young adult vampire hunter who returns home from a summer long boot camp having finally been trained to be the vampire hunter that she has already been “employed” as. After a traumatic end to the previous year which lead to a betrayal by her friends and a murder of a prominent vampire, Aurora returns home with no one she can turn to other than her vampire fighting team. As she tries to come to terms with her changing relationship with the government agency controlling her life, she must also try to make sense of her relationships and keep her family safe. On top of all that, she is finally starting college and living on her own with a roommate.

As in the previous books, the concept of relating vampirism, fatal diseases, and blood types to the origin of vampirism and the method for killing vampire is one that I haven’t heard of before this series and I think it’s quite unique and interesting.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. The plot was intriguing, action-filled, and tied in seamlessly with the previous novels. As before there is a lot of focus on how the relationships between the characters change. I thought it was well done here. The vampire hunting action was exciting and it was well intertwined with how Aurora’s relationships changed. I really like the unfolding plot-line and was not expecting all of the information that was revealed in this novel. It is intriguing and made me want to know more. The one thing that really bothered me throughout the novel was that for the most part I personally found the relationship between Aurora and her fellow vampire hunters to be frustrating. While there are hints at the other hunters/informants as having more depth, their behavior and Aurora’s flat interactions with them seems to indicate otherwise. Noel and Fane seem to be better defined. This novel was able to incite a lot of different emotions from me through the behavior of the characters, which is a good trait for a story to have.

The narration by Em Eldridge was good. While I’ve been finding Aurora’s voice a little whiny, and one of the hunters, Valerie’s voice, made me want to throttle her (which, I suppose might be the point), but in general the voicing for the characters was great. The production quality was good. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes young adult fiction and vampire stories.

Bad Blood takes place six months after Northern Bites when Aurora returns from boot camp.

Aurora’s character changed a lot over that time, she has been toughened up. She’s not the only one that changed: her mom and Noel also made a considerable transformation.

It was interesting seeing Valerie and Aurora hanging out so much. They actually seemed to occasionally like each other. It was almost as if they were becoming friends.

Speaking of friends, Aurora and Dante's relationship becomes fascinating. Dante wanting a relationship with Aurora, the boy clearly has it bad for her. I love that he helped out her mom and grandma while she was at boot camp. Of course, Fane is still in the picture so it complicates things.

I love Dante’s dog, Tommy. What Melcher did really ticked me off, anyone who messes with an innocent animal is not someone I trust or have respect for.

Bad Blood has a great plot with a ton of stuff going on. The blood tasting parties are an interesting case. Plus, things are not finished with Jared and Giselle. They have cases to solve and personal missions to resolve. The ending left me wanting to start the next book immediately. Good thing for me, I had it.

About the Author

Contributors include: Gordon Rottman, Carl Smith, Mark Stille, Joseph Mueller, Derrick Wright, Jim Moran, and Bernard Ireland.

Foreword by Dale Dye who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and served in Vietnam, surviving 31 major combat operations. He emerged from Southeast Asia highly decorated, and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before he was chosen to attend Officer Candidate School. Dye founded Warriors, Inc, the leading military consultancy to motion pictures and television shortly after retiring from the Marine Corps and his firm has worked on more than 50 movies and TV shows including several Academy Award and Emmy winning productions.

Introduction by Professor Robert O'Neill, AO D.Phil. (Oxon), Hon D. Litt. (ANU), FASSA who served in the Australian Army, and has held a number of eminent positions in history circles, including Chichele Professor of the History of War at All Souls College, Oxford, and Chairman of the Board of the Imperial War Museum and the Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London. He is the author of many books including works on the German Army and the Nazi Party, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. Now based in Australia on his retirement from Oxford he is the Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy and Planning Director of the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.

Anyone can restructure, but this book is about DESIGN

This is the book you want to have when you are faced with redesigning, not simply reorganizing, your organization. It's a practical guide to all the necessary steps one must take in order to ensure alignment of all the components that enhance or inhibit your organization's ability to work smoothly. Kates and Kesler provide a practical framework that is written for the line manager who needs to redesign and the HR practitioner who helps make it happen. Easy to follow, simple to use, and a must-have for anyone who has this challenge in front of them.

Practical for Matrix Design

First, full disclosure I bought this book on Kindle and regret not taking the time for the actual book. Personally, I like to write in the margins, high light and (gasp) make copies of graphs, diagrams etc. but I wanted it quickly and will also purchase the book.

It is a very useful and practical book for an OD professional or a business leader that wants hands on control versus employing a consultant. While practical it is a break down of their methods and approach. It is also directed towards a "Matrix" management model, some discussion of other forms of design and their pro's and Con's would have been very useful. The authors are Jay Galbraith mentees so don't expect a critique of matrix management.

If you buy into matrix management and the clear advantages in a collaborative environment that has broken down the silos, it is very useful and directive. They have addressed some of the early pit falls of matrix management's question of accountability but don't expect direction to design a "command and control" environment, which would not be an option for most situations but may be required in some.

As my rating would indicate, it is an exceptionally useful and instructive book. The steps in their process are clearly articulated as are the underlying issues you are trying to get at. Most impressive, to me was, the way they lead you through the decision you have to make and the questions the various stakeholders have to answer. They walk you through those questions and discussion to arrive at a decision. The book does assume you have a working knowledge of Galbraith's STAR Model, I found that I had to review this model to fully utilize this book. The willingness to be this open and instructive was much appreciated and the advantages greatly outweigh these minor critiques.

Exceptional, Practical Roadmap

This is an extremely insightful and highly useful guide for designing organizations prepared to succeed in today's competitive marketplace. I was expecting a ten thousand foot, theoretical examination of necessary constructs and thought parameters, but instead found something very different and refreshing. While Kesler and Kates' book is well researched and thoughtful, it also provides an experience and example-based road map that is both logical and clear. The authors present a planning and implementation guide that specifically outlines participation, tasks and milestones. Want to design an organization that is customer focused, efficient, scalable, and achieves results? This book is not only a must-read, it's a must follow.

In this his second book Damien Dsoul takes us to a suburban town where the people are like a coin , showing the outside world one face , but saving the other face for indoors . We get to meet Jolene and Marty Briggs , a young married couple , she trying to write a book and he a working stiff . Both enjoy each other , but are very naïve when it comes interracial sex and the cuckold life style . It takes Gail and her four friends to want to spice up their dull life styles by forming a club , pulling in Jolene in the process . Gail's husband , already a cuckold , works on Marty dropping hints to how much fun it would be to watch his wife enjoy herself with a black man . Little does Marty know that Jolene has already cheated on him , and now wants more action . It's not until they all meet at the " Mansion " that Jolene and Marty realize that they were played by the group ? Is it to late to save their marriage now that a baby is on its way, and what about that trip that Jolene wants to go on to Nigeria . For that you will have to read the book .

At last, a book on bankruptcy that explains basic concepts before beginning the broader discussion of deals and dealmakers. The author anticipated all the questions this reviewer had and answered them where they were raised. Rosenberg has written about an arcane area of finance, and the book reads like a good suspense novel. The "winners" of the subtitle are the investors themselves, the "losers" the shareholders (and usually management) of the original company and, more often than not, the American taxpayer. Recommended for academic and public libraries holding James B. Stewart's Den of Thieves ( LJ 10/1/91) and for readers of Stewart's book, as a glimpse into the aftermath of poor management decisions or of gorging at the financial trough.

A blue-chip rundown on the predatory Wall Streeters who incur sizable risks in hope of realizing handsome rewards--by taking big positions at a discount in the distressed debt securities of Chapter 11 casualties. A senior editor at Institutional Investor, Rosenberg chronicles the latter-day emergence of a new breed of opportunist as the takeover wars of the 80's have given way to the restructuring battles of the 90's. By her informed and instructive account, many of the high-profile enterprises that borrowed substantial amounts (e.g., in the junk-bond market and from banks) in aid of leveraged buyouts or other dubious deals soon found themselves unable to meet their debt-service obligations. Many wound up in federal bankruptcy court, where they became fair game for the money men (no women of note as yet) whom the author characterizes as ``vulture investors.'' Lineal descendants of the gentlemanly souls who patiently searched for value among the fiscal wreckage of Depression-era railroads, vulture investors are, on the anecdotal evidence of Rosenberg's text, a hard-nosed, unsentimental lot. Backed to a surprising extent by public pension money (a mainstay of the prior decade's merger mania), the loan-arrangers don't hesitate to throw their weight around and antagonize creditor committees or, if need be, judges. Rosenberg offers an accessible, frequently entertaining guide to the role played by these scavengers in more than a dozen reorganizations, including those involving Southland (of 7-Eleven fame), Donald Trump's Atlantic City casinos, and Allegheny International (Oster-Sunbeam). She also profiles major players, few of whom (save Carl Icahn) are household names. Excellent

I found this book to be exactly what I hoped for. I like to read business stories. The author's goal was to teach the reader about investing in bankrupt companies and the method used was with detailed narratives of past deals. This was perfect for what I wanted.
The book went into great detail about the hierarchy of security claims and how they work in bankruptcy. The examples showed how the investor classes work with and against each other in bankruptcy and the roles the b/k judge and attorneys played. With many different narratives the reader is able to see different outcomes and the extreme risks and rewards involved in this type investing.
The book's main focus was on the personalities involved in buying distressed debt and then trying to influence the b/k process mainly through the courts but sometimes in prepackaged b/ks.
In summary, I learned a lot and enjoyed the stories also. The only caveat I would have is that the book was originally written in the early 90s so there are not new examples although the author did give summary updates on the companies and investors up through 1998.

Not for the faint of heart

The book covers the practice of investing in the securities of distressed/bankrupt companies. Topics include: investing in distressed debt; the reorganization process under Chapter 11; the contests for control between conflicting classes/interests in the reorganization process.
But, the book doesn't cover these topics in mere textbook fashion. Rather, it introduces us to some of the most famous vulture investors of all time and provides exciting narratives of their significant investment successes and failures. The cast of characters is fascinating. One ends up with a very good feel for the type of personality needed to work in this field: financial/legal wizard who combines the ferocity and tenacity of a wolverine with the haggling skills of a hat merchant from the garment district.
One of the most famous of the vulture investors is Marty Whitman, whose book "Value Investing: A Balanced Approach" forms an invaluable companion text to this book. "Value Investing" provides the theoretical underpinnings; "Vulture Investors" shows the theories in action.

This book provides the reader with an excellent introduction into the various strategies and techniques that "special situation" investors apply when seeking to profit from distrssed companies.
The author engages the reader in a story book fashion with actual bankruptcy stories, the cast of characters, investment philosophies/strategies and lessons to be learned.
The author also sprinkles in bankruptcy laws and procedures for those who are not as conversant in the field.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in profiting from distressed companies.

A Must-Have Book

This is a clear, concise, and very readable book that makes the case for employee ownership as no other book ever has. It demonstrates clearly that when employees have an owneship stake, the bottom line is dramatically improved. Dr. Beyster's extraordinary account describes the events that brought the company he founded, and directed as its CEO, to over $8 billion in sales. Dr. Beyster shares his vision, his wisdom and counsel on his journey to founding and then sustaining one of the most successful corporations in America. Packed with example after example, year after year, the road to SAIC's pheonomenal success is clearly set out in the principles that guided the company to its success. You won't be able to set this book down, and will want to read it again.

Different Paradigm Shift for Technology Companies

Spending many years in the life sciences field with particular focus on new ventures, it has become clear to me how frequently new entrepreneurs are drilled with the concept of the necessity of venture funding to launch their ideas. It has become almost the standard of thought for many entrepreneurs. However, with the recent economic turmoil, it has also become a much more distant reality for many as investment money is becoming much more scarce.

In light of this, Dr. Beyster's book comes as a proverbial oasis in the desert offering advice, inspiration and hope by describing not only a unique method of funding and growing a company, but also a redefinition of the concept of a company. The employee ownership model that he used to grow SAIC to a company of 43,000 employees and 8 billion in annual revenue will likely become a driving model in the creation of new ventures. He has proven that the "culture" of a company can be much more than the particular choice of casual Friday--when employees feel connected to a company on both a personal and financial level, not merely as employees but as owners, many small visions come into alignment and collectively produce a strong unified driving force. As an MBA graduate and an entrepreneur, I was astonished not only by Dr. Beyster's unique management principles but also by the company's financial performance. SAIC achieved an average compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33% and revenue growth every year for 30 years. Dr. Beyster tells the story of how an entrepreneur can transform the lives of thousands of employed entrepreneurs who were treated as partners in their privately held, employee owned company. He decisively shared ownership of the company based on each entrepreneur's contributions to the company's profits and utilized participative management to give each entrepreneur a say in the direction of their highly decentralized company.

These can be identified by chromosomal analysis and molecular cytogenetic techniques such as Fluorescent in Situ Hybridization (FISH) and Microarray, which have enormously expanded in recent years.

About the Author
I have been working as a laboratory technician for 30 years: 21 years as a biochemistry laboratory technician and 10 years as a genetics laboratory technician. I am greatful to have had the opportunity to gain experience through working with a team of consultants in cytogenetic and molecular science and with professional laboratory technicians. I have collected basic information to compose a handbook, focusing on the cytogenetic laboratory. I was able to carry out this task by: - My experience as a genetic laboratory technician specialist for 10 years; - Using resources from various genetic based textbooks and articles; - Using information gathered from attending various genetic related conferences. Throughout my employment as a genetics laboratory technician, I was constantly asked by fellow workers, friends, family, and physicians, to explain what my job entails. As a result, the handbook was composed with two categories of readers in mind: the chief audience being the cytogenetics laboratory workers, who in addition to possessing the technical skills for chromosomal analysis, should understand the theoretical basis of clinical cytogenetics and be aware of the practical implications of their work; the second group targeting people with limited background in genetics. With genetics being such a power topic, my goal is to make this handbook a valuable resource for all levels of students and professionals interested in genetics. This handbook serves as an excellent reference for genetic academicians and enthusiasts. It is also an easy introductory guide for those with limited knowledge in cytogenetics and chromosomes. It provides ample information on DNA and the human genome, syndromes, gene mutations, chromosome composition and location, the role chromosomes play in sex determination, chromosomal changes throughout evolution, chromosomal movements during mitosis and meiosis, and chromosomal abnormalities.
