Excellent Textbook

Another fine text from the Princeton Series.
First, from a review in Journal of Statistical Physics (Ben-Avraham, 2012) :
"...remarkably self-contained and comprehensive introductory textbook..."
Next, my impressions:
The Thermodynamics is presented via a postulational (deductive)approach and this clearly enunciated.
Statistical Mechanical fundamentals are presented in the third chapter,lucidly expounding upon such standards
as phase space, observables, quantum states and the variational principle.
The later chapters (6-10),are beautiful expositions of more advanced material.
In particular,Chapter 9 (Dynamics), surveying Brownian Motion and Stochastics, is exceptional, proffering an interplay
between heuristic and analytical formalism.
The author gives nod to Boltzmann's conception of "..Entropy as an expression of the volume of the accessible phase space."
Chapter Five (Phase Transitions) is a delight; herein expressions derived for duality of Ising Model in two dimensions (Page 142),
Mean Fields supported via variational approach (Page 148) , and Einstein's theory of fluctuations (Page 157) aptly described.
And, scattered throughout we find in-line exercises, recommended readings (especially important in order to supplement the brevity ),
culminating in a lengthy bibliography.
The exposition is lucid and derivations straightforward, if not easy to comprehend.
Author's stated goal: "..to be both a beginner's and advanced course."
The author structures the text according to those aims, the first five chapters tailored for the beginner,
the remainder of the text, then, being more advanced.
An up to date,comprehensive, textbook well worth serious study.
Highly recommended, and an enjoyable text to peruse.

For math majors only

The text is good, until the author gets to the equations, at which point he totally loses the reader (me, at least). The author frequently skips steps in the equation derivations and expects the reader to follow while performing multi variate chain rule differentiation in his head. I have read many textbooks in mechanics and research in comp. chem and bio and the author still manages to lose me every two pages or so. Maybe this is good for geniuses, but for regulars maybe a more standard textbook like Atkins or Dill is better

Heartily endorsed by humans, vampires, ogres, trolls, and werewolves alike.

This is a very well written paranormal novel with a decidedly comedic turn. Not what you'd normally expect when reading about the journey of a vampire and a werewolf. And let's not forget Bumache, the assassin that is chasing them. By the way, the name Bumache foreshadows a number of butt references but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

This is also a very practical book since it includes a host of tips on traveling. For example, you should stay in Troll-run hotels due to their exceptional hospitality and attention to detail. And the book even comes with a coupon for using Ogre-powered bicycle tours. Neat, huh?

This book by John Logsdon and Christopher Young reminds me of the middle novels in the Myth Adventures series by Robert Lynn Asprin. The pointed references to slightly renamed companies and individuals like Microsoft, Apple, and Google allow the authors to air their viewpoint on modern society in a very amusing way. I found this treatment very entertaining yet the book also works on a purely straight road adventure basis. When you get right down to it, The Journey Home is a book about the transformation of a mild mannered character into a stronger more self-reliant one and that's a pretty universal tale.

A Great Fun Read

A enjoyable sequel to their 1st book in the Ononokin universe. If you like Asprin's Myth, Inc. books, you will certainly enjoy this book & their previous on A Quest of Undoing. I highly recommend them both. While set in the same "universe", it is not necessary to have read the 1st one but you will probably want to after reading The Journey Home. I hope the authors continue with a 3rd book soon.

With the ever-increasing demand on wireless spectrum by wide bandwidth applications, such as third-generation mobile phones at RF frequencies, Multipoint Video Distribution System (MVDS) and Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) in the millimeter-wave frequency range, there is a growing need to exploit higher and higher frequencies. The mm-wave field has therefore become a rapidly emerging area of research.

Millimeter-Wave Integrated Circuits explores the design and implementation of mm-wave integrated circuits using MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) technology. The main focal points are, firstly, fundamental circuit analyzes of building blocks necessary for the employment of MMIC technology for mm-wavelength applications, and, secondly, circuit design methodologies associated with these building blocks. The analytical/theoretical treatment is supplemented by specific mm-wave MMIC designs of varied complexity. The circuit designs presented have been fabricated on a commercial 0.25 m m GaAs pHEMT foundry process, thereby demonstrating that high volume, high quality mm-wave MMICs can indeed become a commercial reality.

Millimeter-Wave Integrated Circuits has a broad scope, and includes detailed discussions on high frequency materials and technologies, high frequency devices and the design of high frequency circuits, giving the reader a good theoretical and practical understanding of mm-wave circuit design. Key components of mm-waves transceiver circuits are studied and evaluated. Practical MMIC realizations, targeted for transceiver applications operating near 40 GHz and 57 GHz, have been fabricated and tested. They include low noise amplifiers (LNAs), balanced diode mixer for both up and down-conversion, balanced HEMT mixer as down-converter, HEMT frequency doubler, HEMT frequency tripler and a 57 GHz transceiver using integrated building blocks. Furthermore the viability of state of the art mm-wave processes for the generation of high power levels at 100 GHz is analyzed and a design topology suitable for a practical realization is presented.

Great introduction to philosophy

This book is really amazing as it presents the most important philoshophers throughout history (from ancient times to present day) in a coprehensive way. I especially enjoyed the easy language, the illustrations and of course the content that included the major points each philosopher emphasized on.
As a student, I was actually taught the material and although I had no interest in Philosophy until now, it managed to intrigue my curiocity and I have now picked up several other PH books. It is just for those starting in philosophy however, so if you are looking for in-depth analysis you should be looking somewhere else.

When I first bought the book I was as ususal skeptical about an 'introduction' to philosophy; expecting to get essay length descriptions of ancient philosophies for my money. But I was pleasantly surprised to find the book maintaining a fine balance between including most of the well-known philosophers and philosophical disciplines and expounding on their philosophy.
I think it is a very good starting point for a beginner in philosophy in the sense that once you get an idea of what certain philosophers were all about, you have the option of choosing who appeals to you most.....and then go ahead from there.

A good read for a mature audience

I had no idea what to expect from this series, and I was pleasantly surprised. The action moves quickly and the fantasy factor is intriguing. The story catches you in the first 5 pages and holds your attention. No boredom in this storyline! The author has done a great job with tastefully executed erotic images and leaves just enough to the imagination to keep it from being too graphic. Good job!

I'm getting really hooked with this series; I think a book a day is something to worry about!!! I can't get enough :)

The meeting scene, Oh my God! Just soooo sexy and thrilling, I would totally do that if I were in her position hahahaha.

We get to meet 3 new incubus, and just by the little peek we get of their personalities i can tell you it’s gonna get Hotter and messier!

About this book in particular, we find that Ethan's disrespect for their law is not a onetime thing, and these incubus seem to be reacting in an unexpected way to this human woman they meet.

About the Author
Richard Campbell, director of the journalism program at Miami University, is the author of "60 Minutes" and the News: A Mythology for Middle America (1991) and coauthor of Cracked Coverage: Television News, the Anti-Cocaine Crusade, and the Reagan Legacy (1994). He has written for numerous publications, including Columbia Journalism Review, Journal of Communication, and Media Studies Journal, and he is on the editorial boards of Critical Studies in Mass Communication and Television Quarterly. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

Joli Jensen is the Hazel Rogers Professor of Communication at the University of Tulsa, where she teaches courses on media, culture and society. She is the author of Is Art Good for Us? Beliefs about High Culture in American Life (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002); Redeeming Modernity: Contradictions in Media Criticism; (Sage, 1990) and The Nashville Sound: Authenticity, Commercialization and Country Music (Vanderbilt, 1998) as well as book chapters and research essays on media criticism, communication technologies, communication theories, the social history of the typewriter, and fans and fandom. Dr. Jensen received her PhD in 1985 from Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois. She has also taught at the University of Virginia, and the University of Texas-Austin. Douglas Gomery is the author of 21 books, and more than 600 articles on the history and economics of the mass media. His book Who Owns the Media? earned the Robert Picard Award as the best economics book by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2001. His book Shared Pleasures earned the prize for TV-film book presented by the Lincoln Center Library in 1991. Dr. Gomery continues to research books and articles on the history and economics of the mass media as Resident Scholar at the Library of American Broadcasting at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism.

Bettina Fabos, an award-winning video maker and former print reporter, is an associate professor of visual communication and interactive media studies at the University of Northern Iowa. She is the author of Wrong Turn on the Information Superhighway: Education and the Commercialized Internet (2004). Her areas of expertise include critical media literacy, Internet commercialization, the role of the Internet in education, and media representations of popular culture. Her work has been published in Library Trends, Review of Educational Research, and Harvard Educational Review. Fabos has also taught at Miami University and has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Julie Frechette is Professor of Communication at Worcester State University, Worcester, MA, where she founded and co-directed the Center for Teaching and Learning. Her book, Developing Media Literacy in Cyberspace: Pedagogy and Critical Learning for the Twenty-First-Century Classroom (Praeger Press, 2002), was among the first to explore the multiple literacies approach for the digital age. She is the author of numerous articles on media literacy and feminism, and has written chapter inclusions for the books Literacy Practices in Late Modernity: Mastering Technological and Cultural Conversion (Hampton Press, 2012), Digital Generations: Children, Young People, and New Media (Lawrence Erlbaum, 2006), and Media Literacy: Transforming Curriculum and Teaching (Blackwell Publishing, 2005). She served as an inaugural member of the Editorial Board for The Journal of Media Literacy Education, and was selected by the National Telemedia Council for the special journal series, "Emerging Scholars in Media Literacy."
